Swedish massage technique is used to relax the entire body. This is accomplished by rubbing the muscles with long gliding strokes in the direction of blood returning to the heart. But Swedish massage therapy goes beyond relaxation; it is exceptionally beneficial for increasing the level of oxygen in the blood, decreasing muscle toxins, and improving circulation and flexibility while easing tension.
Designed to relieve severe tension in the muscle and the connective tissue, deep tissue massage focuses on the muscles located below the superficial muscles. Deep tissue massage is recommended for individuals who experience consistent pain, are involved in heavy physical activity, and/or who have sustained physical injury.
When there is chronic muscle tension or injury, there are usually adhesions (bands of painful, rigid tissue) in muscles, tendons, and ligaments. Adhesions can block circulation and cause pain, limited movement, referred pain, and inflammation. Deep tissue massage works by physically breaking down these adhesions to relieve pain and restore normal movement. At certain points during the massage, most people find there is usually some discomfort and pain. It is important to tell your therapist when things hurt and if any soreness or pain you experience is outside of your comfort range.
Reflex points on the hands and feet are related to every organ in the body. By applying firm pressure to these specific points your therapist can activate links to specific glands, organs, and muscles. Reflex massage can relieve tension, improve the blood supply to certain regions of the body, and help to normalize body functions. Reflexology uses a deeper pressure, so always communicate with your therapist. It should not be an uncomfortable experience; instead, your hands and feet should feel relaxed and refreshed along with receiving the added benefit of healthy internal improvements.
Applying gentle pressure to the face, neck, and shoulders serves to break up the mucous that backs up in the sinus cavities. The natural drainage mechanism is stimulated to clear the passageways. Blood circulation increases to sustain better sinus function and relieves tension headaches.
This deep tissue technique utilizes silicone cups that create suction to gently pull the tissues. Massage lotion may be applied to create a better seal and to allow the cups to glide more smoothly over muscle groups. This technique is typically used on areas that are difficult to stretch. It is not suited for everyone, so talk to your therapist about the potential benefits for you.
This is a system of gentle touch therapy designed to enhance the functioning of the membranes, tissues, fluids, and bones surrounding or associated with the brain and spinal cord. This technique can help with joint mobilization and alleviate symptoms of spinal dysfunction.
